Servant Year History
In Brief
Servant Year began in September, 2001 as a joint mission between the Episcopal Diocese
of PA and the Southeastern Pennsylvania Synod of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America. Along with four interns, they laid down the roots for what would become the program as we know it today. In the beginning, Servant Year was closely associated with St. Peter's Episcopal Church of Germantown which provided its rectory as a residence for the interns.

Since 2001, Servant Year has moved its interns' residence and base of activity to the Calvary Episcopal Church in Philadelphia at 314 West Manheim St. Intern placement has expanded beyond solely the ecuminical organizations with which it began. We now place interns at several services that focus on helping those most in need of assistance.

In 2004 Matt Myers, a graduate of the Servant Year internship program, took leadership of the Servant Year program. Upon assuming Executive Director duties, Matt has ushered dozens of interns through the Servant Year home and into a life of social service. Many interns have gone on to careers into the very organizations for which they interned.
