Where Is An Intern Placed?

Servant Year Calender
After the application process and orientation, an intern can begin participation within a partnering social service agency which he or she is assigned. Over the years, these agencies have included: Covenant House, Project H.O.M.E., Lutheran Children and Family Services (LCFS), Episocopal Community Services (ECS), United Community SouthEastern Pennsylvania (UCSP), Volunteers of America, as well as others. Within different organizations, there are different responsibilities, but each carries a focus on peoples in need. Please visit the "Links" icon at the top of the page for more information on each organization.

SY Interns at Covenant House PA
Servant Year interns volunteer 1700 hours of their time during a 51-week period. They live in an intentional Christian community, gathering often for prayer, and weekly for community meetings. The Servant Year program recruits and places interns at affiliated agencies as internships develop throughout the year. The internship year includes 13 days of personal leave (note – total work hours are not inclusive of this leave). A stipend of Five Hundred Dollars a month (less taxes) is provided, as well as paid housing (including utilities), and health coverage. During the year's services, four optional retreats are planned with focus on spritual development, community building, and relaxation.

The placements are carefully screened and supervised. Each intern will have a primary supervisor at his or her agency. In addition, the Servant Year director will meet with the intern and his/her supervisor often for evaluations and feedback. Oftentimes, upon completion of the year's service, an intern can find a permanent position within the organization in which they've been participating.
